If you've ever felt called to support families through pregnancy and birth, this is your chance to take the first step. On October 17–18, 2026, Lorena Terán, CAPPA Faculty and founder of Babies Under My Wings, is leading a live, in-person CAPPA Labor Doula Certification Training in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Whether you're starting a new career, adding doula skills to work you already do in healthcare or wellness, or simply want to serve families in your community, this two-day training gives you the foundation to begin.

What Is a Labor Doula?

A labor doula, also called a birth doula, provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to families before, during, and just after birth. Doulas don't provide medical care. Instead, they focus on comfort, encouragement, and helping families understand their options so they feel confident and supported.

CAPPA uses the term "labor doula," and its certification prepares you to support families from pregnancy through labor and into the first hours after birth, whether they give birth at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital.

How CAPPA Certification Works

This training is the first big step toward becoming a CAPPA Certified Labor Doula (CLD). Here's how the path works:

  2. Attend the live training. You'll receive the CAPPA Labor Doula Training Manual.

  3. Complete your certification steps. After training, you'll enroll in CAPPA Academy, read the manual and required reading list, and complete the remaining requirements. You have two years to finish.
